Information & history on rear of plaque:
00-621 Washington Irving's Sunnyside, Tarrytown, NY.  Sunnyside is the home of Washington Irving (1783-1859), author of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle."  The picturesque cottage surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, is an extraordinary example of early 19th century Romanticism.  Sunnyside is a property of Historic Hudson Valley.

00-622 The Mark Twain Home, Hartford, CT.  "Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) and his wife Olivia built their house, a prime example of Picturesque architecture, in 1874.  Here they raised their three daughters, Susy, Clara, and Jean.  It was during these Hartford years (1874-1891) that Clemens published several of his best books, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

00-623 Laura Ingalls Wilder Home, Mansfield, MO.  Both beauty and hardships of the land were no stranger to Laura Ingalls Wilder, (1867-1957) who had been part of a pioneering family all her life.  She and her husband, Almanzo, purchased their final home, Rocky Ridge Farm, in 1894 and built it up together.  Rose, her daughter, enjoyed hearing about Laura's adventures growing up, and it was here where Laura wrote her much loved Little House books.

00-624 Louisa May Alcott's Orchard Home, Concord, MA.  This house was where Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) wrote domestic saga, Little Women.  Surrounded by 12 acres boasting several apple orchards, it was home to Louisa, her parents and sisters for nearly twenty years.  Orchard House became a model for the homje in Louisa's novel, in which she and her sisters appear fictionally as "Meg,""Jo,""Beth," and "Amy."
