Information & history on reverse side of plaque:
02-541 Bakery Bread is the sustenance of German life. Every village has at least one bakery that fills the early morning air with yeasty aromas. Many Germans visit the local bakery every day to pick up fresh brotchen (hard rolls), baked goods and traditional soft pretzels.
02-542 Guest House The Gasthof is very much a part of every German village. The upper stories are filled with quaint rooms available for rent. Most Gasthofs have a neighborhood restaurant on the ground floor used by locals as well as travelers. Look for the tables labled "Stammtisch," for these are reserved for the regular customers. Zum Goldenen Lowen is a historic guest house, its translation means "At the Golden Lion."
02-543 Butcher Shop Most Germans still purchase their meat from the neighborhood Metzgerei. They will visit a few times a week to pick up the traditional meats, including schinken wurst, fleisch kase, and bratwerst.
02-544 City Hall Most German villages are built around the Rathaus, or City Hall. Usually, right outside the Rathaus is the Marktplatz, a focal point of the community where daily commerce takes place.
