This colonial Dutch style church was built by Frederick Philipse in 1685.   It was immortalized in Washington Irving's story,  The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Dutch Colonial homes were built in Kingston during the 17th century.   In 1777 British troops set the town on fire because of its support of the American Revolution.   Fortunitely many of the town's historic homes survived and have been restored.
