01-421 The Elms, Newport, RI.   Built in 1901 for Edward J.Berwind of Philadelphia and New York, the 18th century French style house is surrounded by extensive grounds which boast of terraces, statues, gazebos and a magnificent sunken garden.  The Elms is open to visitors under the auspices of The Preservation Society of Newport County.

01-422 The Breakers, Newport, RI.   The 1895 Cornelius Vanderbilt mansion, facing the Atlantic Ocean, was modeled after the palaces of Genoa.  It is the symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial pre-eminence in late 19th century America.  The Breakers is owned by The Preservation Society of Newport County and open to the public.

01-423 Chateau-sur-Mer, Newport, RI.   The "castle-on-the-sea," constructed of Fall Rive granite, is a handsome example of Victorian architecture at its most magnificent.  It was built in 1852 for China-trade magnate William S.Wetmore.  Chateau-sur-Mer is open to visitors under the auspices of The Preservation Society of Newport County.

01-424 Kingscote, Newport, RI.   This classic Victorian "cottage" features Tiffany glass windows and fixtures, outstanding paintings and valuable porcelains.  Its original furnishings include pieces by Townsend and Goddard.  It was built in 1839 for George Noble Jones of Savannah, Georgia and purchased in 1864 by William Henry King, who named it.  Kingscote is open to visitors under the auspices of The Preservation Society of Newport County.

01-425 Green Animals Topiary, Newport, RI.   A shaped privet elephant watches over his flowerbed in Green Animals, a historic masterpiece and one of the oldest topiary gardens in the nation.  It is a whimsical adventure for all ages and includes a giraffe, lion, camel, unicorn, teddy bear and many more animals, skillfully shaped from California privet and boxwood.  Green animals is open to visitors under the auspices of The Preservation Society of Newport County.
