The Art Institute of Pittsburgh counts over 26,000 alumni who have helped create and shape the world of American popular culture since 1921.   By using their creative talent,  energy and skill in commercial art,  design and technology,  they've been active participants from the golden age of illustration to the technological revolution.
In July of 2000,  the Art Instutute moved from a location at 526 Penn Avenue to a historic landmark building at 420 Boulevard of the Allies that previously housed the headquarters of Equitable Gas Resources.   With the exception of the exterior facade and gallery structure,  the building was completely renovated.   The move to this location increased school facilities by 55,00 square feet and other facilities for student activities.   This location,  its sixth in the Golden Triangle,  renews the school's commitment to a presence and role in the vitality of downtown Pittsburgh.
The Art Institute offers historically successful two-year associate degree programs in Culinary Arts,  Graphic Design,  Industrial Design,  Multimedia & Web Design,  Photography and Video Production.   It is also the first post-secondary career school in Pennsylvania to offer the baccalaureate degree,  and now offers bachelor's degrees in Culinary Management,  Game Art & Design,  Graphic Design,  Interior Design,  Industrial Design,  Media Arts & Animation,  Multimedia & Web Design,  Digital Media Production and Visual Effects & Motion Graphics.   In addition,  a variety of these courses and degrees can now be taken online through a new devision,  The Art Institute Online.   The Art Institute also offers professional development,  creative workshops and customized workforce training.
