Information & History on rear of plaque:
LSS03, Bluebonnet, is the Texas State Flower.
LSS02, Ashton Villa, Galveston, TX, James M. Brown, a New York born brick mason, built this extravagant home and entertainment center for his family in 1859. Once serving as headquarters for the Confederate and Union armies during the Civil War, this Italianate dwelling was slightly ahead of its time. With adornments that did not become popular until after the Civil War. Ashton Villa boasts brick and plaster from Phadelphia, ironwork from England, and hand-carved walnut valences from Paris. Artisians were even brought in from France to apply gold leaf to interior friezes and medallions. Saved from demolition by the Galveston Historical Foundation in the 1960's, the mansion is the city's oldest house open to the public. Ashton Villa, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, now serves as a museum.
LSS01, Redington House, Waxahachie, TX, This north-central Texas area, known as the Blackland Prairie, boasts a modern town that reflects many treasures from yesterday's small-town America. The Redington House, with its 1893 detailed friee and Moorish arch, is considered by many to be the best of Waxahachie's Victorian.
