Information & History:
LWC01 Tidalholm - Edgar Fripp House, Beaufort, SC.   Edgar Fripp reportedly built this large Italinate style frame house as his summer home.  Owned by his brother, James Fripp, the house served as Union Hospital #7 during the Civil War.  From the 1930s until 1974 "Tidalholm" was used as a guest house bringing many artists, authors, professors, and statesmen to Beaufort.  Tidalholm" was extensively altered after the "great hurricane" and restored in 1974 as a private residence with its original air of charm and gracious living.  Several movies have been filmed here including the Great Santini and the Big Chill.

LWC03 Hunting Island Light, Hunting Island State Park, SC.   This lighthouse was originally constructed in 1859 about halfway between Charleston and Savannah.  During the Civil War the lighthouse went dark, and by the end of the war had mysteriously disappeared.  Another structure was constructed in 1875, about a mile from the original site.  Threatened by the sea, it was moved more than a mile inland in 1889.  The light, which is no longer in service, is 140 feet from the ground and has 181 steps for visitors to climb and enjoy the view.
