Was completed in the Spring of 1970. The red and white lighthouse has become the symbol for all of Hilton Head Island, as well as South Carolina. It is now recognized as one of the nation's best known landmarks. It has never been a working lighthouse.

It stands 165 feet above sea level, and was built during 1857 and 1858. "Old Barney" was first lit on January 1, 1859 and was extinguished January 1, 1944. Ownership of the lighthouse was transferred to the State of New Jersey in 1926.
